2012 UNW / Snohomish County 4-H Foundation Show - Monroe, WA

Jan 9, 2012: The Show Is Full - All Tables Are Sold Out!

United Northwest Model Railroad Club is proud to announce its 21st annual model railroad show and swap meet to benefit Snohomish County 4-H Foundation  February 4 & 5, 2012. It is hosted at the Evergreen State Fairgrounds in Monroe WA. We are back in last year's 50,000 sq ft venue at the Evergreen State Fairgrounds in Monroe, WA.

10:30 - 11:30 AM – "Milwaukee Road Electrification" Presented by Noel Holley
The Milwaukee Road was a world pioneer in the use of electric locomotives and from 1915 until the 1950s, the Milwaukee had the world’s longest railroad electrification. The slides and presentation by Noel Holley will show you those fascinating locomotives and the line that carried them from Montana to Seattle and Tacoma.

11:45 AM - 12:45 PM – "Soldering" Presented by Ed Calder
Everything you wanted to know about soldering, but were afraid to ask.

1:00:00 PM - 2:00 – "Weathering With Chalks" Presented by Walt Huston (Hands-On Clinic)
One man’s method for weathering rolling stock, locomotives and structures to make them blend in with the scenes modeled. This clinic shows how to copy mother nature and, in some cases, man in their endless pursuit of changing how things look. Learn how to simulate the effects of dust, dirt and rain. Bring a car of your own to weather (clean and coated with dull-coat) or borrow one of Walts.

2:15 - 3:15 PM – "Doing Scenery Mother Nature's Way" Presented by Paul Scoles
Author, veteran modeler, operator and producer of DVDs of scenery techniques will present a clinic on his scenery techniques utilizing natural materials.

3:30 – 4:40 PM – “Japanese N-Scale” Presented by Bob Pierce
A discussion of what is available in Japanese N scale, including Tomix, Kawai, Hogarakadu, GreenMax and Kato (Japanese prototypes, not US models)


Sunday - February 5, 2012

10:30 - 11:30 AM – “What is in a Modeler’s Toolbox?” Presented by Dave Montgomery
A discussion of tools (conventional and unconventional) and how they are used to achieve modeling techniques.

11:45 AM - 12:45 PM - ”DCC Overview” Presented by David Waterstreet
Detailed overview of DCC systems and controls. Bring your questions for the Q&A session that follows.

1:00 - 2:00 PM - “Scenery Techniques” Presented by Doug Hoff
The clinic will demonstrate various techniques to “build” scenery on your layout.

  • Please be advised that the show is full and all swap tables have been sold.

8) Parking: 

Free parking is located on-site the days of the show 
 
RV charges per night are $26.00 hookup; $18.00 without hookup as of 09/01/10. Please check with the Fairgrounds with any questions as these rates could change by the date of the show. Please pay at the Fairgrounds Office as you arrive.

From Seattle: 
East via I-90 or SR-520 to I-405 North 
North on I-405 to SR-522 (Exit 23) 
East on SR-522 to Highway 2 
Right at the stoplight 
Go west on Highway 2 for 1/2 mile - Evergreen State Fairgrounds is on the right.

From SeaTac Airport: 
Follow freeway directions towards Seattle 
SR-518 turns into I-405 North 
Stay on I-405 North towards Renton/Bellevue 
East on SR-522 to Highway 2 
Right at the stoplight 
Go west on Highway 2 for 1/2 mile - Evergreen State Fairgrounds is on the right.
